Clinical Series: Contextual Therapy for Prolonged Child Sexual Abuse Survivors Part I by Steven Gold, Ph.D. Nova Southeastern University Department of Psychological Studies.
Contextual therapy is a form of treatment specifically designed for adult survivors of prolonged child abuse. If we listen carefully, prolonged child sexual abuse (CSA) survivors often describe an extensive history of deprivation that not only made them vulnerable to abuse perpetrators but robbed them of the opportunity to reach their developmental potential. Consequently, many of them struggle through life having never been provided with the resources needed to attain full adult functioning. This workshop will present an overview of contextual therapy, which highlights the need to identify and address gaps in development in addition to processing CSA trauma.
Green Dot: A Comprehensive Approach to Violence Prevention by Dorothy Edwards, Ph.D. University of Kentucky Violence Intervention and Prevention Center.
This workshop will present a model of violence prevention that emphasizes the role of bystanders in addressing power-based personal violence (including sexual violence, dating violence and stalking). The workshop will (1) review key literature that informs the model, (2) provide an overview of the “Green Dot” model of violence prevention, and (3) discuss potential application of model across settings.
Best Practices for Dual SV/DV Programs by FCASV and FCADV Staff.
This workshop will outline up-to-date best practices for programs that serve both sexual violence and domestic violence clients.
FCADV Track: Loss, Grief, and Domestic Violence by Concetta Hollinger, M.S.W., N.C.A, Sarasota Police Department.
This workshop will focus on grief within the domestic violence survivor's experience. Grief is often a forgotten part of the healing process for domestic violence survivors who are both in the relationship and leaving the relationship. Education on the terms associated with grief and loss as well as the various stages of the grief process will enhance the practitioner's ability to address these issues and enhance the support provided to the survivor. Practical applications in dealing with grief and loss in the domestic violence context will also be discussed.

Strengthening Military-Civilian Community Partnerships to Respond to Sexual Assault by Allen Trimmings, Sexual Assault Center of Pierce County
The military is a culture within itself, and many of the soldiers and their families live within our communities. Do you understand the military culture enough the properly serve those families? Are you or your agency prepared to provide services to victims of Sexual Assault to victims from the military community? If you answered no to either one of those question then this training is for you.
Language Accessibility: Providing Meaningful Access to Services for Non-native English Speakers by Jeanette Ocasio-McLain, Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center, Inc.
Limited English proficient victims face many obstacles, perhaps the most daunting of which can be their inability to speak and read English. Without adequately understanding English, these victims may be unable to communicate with law enforcement, seek medical attention, access available resources or negotiate the legal system. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 directs the responsibility of providing language accessibility to the service provider, not the help seeker. This workshop is intended for managers and administrators and aims to help them understand the obligations providers have to offer culturally competent services and meaningful access to non-English speakers.
FCADV Track: CourtWatch: How Citizens Can Impact the Justice System by Laura S. Williams, CourtWatch Florida, Inc.
CourtWatch’s goal is to ensure that the judicial system holds domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse offenders accountable for their behavior while not re-victimizing victims in the process. By providing impartial observers at court proceedings, CourtWatch keeps the judicial system answerable to the public. This workshop is designed to provide participants with the framework needed to establish a court monitoring program in their own community.
