FCASV Launches Online Training
October 15, 2009 was the launch date for the advocacy core training (ACT) web-based instruction. Florida certified rape crisis centers can now offer new staff members and volunteers the opportunity to complete their training requirements online. This new format provides centers with quality training without the expense of employee travel and out-of-office time.
266 people have registered for the advocacy core training since its launch. Over a dozen have completed the 30-hour training and received certificates. Feedback from users has been positive with special kudos for the newly developed skill building videos and practice exercises. Over time, the ACT discussion forum will become a valuable way for advocates across the state to communicate with each other and share ideas, experiences and resources.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the advocacy core training. If you do not work or volunteer with a certified rape crisis center then log in as a guest. Guests have access to all of the training materials but cannot join the discussion forum or complete the practice exercises. Students, survivors or anyone interested in learning more about sexual violence should consider the training. It focuses on providing crisis intervention to primary and secondary survivors, advocacy in healthcare and legal settings and skills for providing quality information and referrals.
Remember to visit the “FCASV Learning Center” on our website by going to www.fcasv.org and clicking on the “training” tab. FCASV plans to increase online training opportunities over the next year with topics such as client case notes, SANE/SART and advanced advocacy. Our goal is to meet the training needs of rape crisis programs throughout the state, so please email your training interests/suggestions to Donna Brown.
