FCASV Insight: Winter 2012

While tough economic times have meant belt tightening for FCASV and Florida's rape crisis centers, our work has continued to flourish. Two new sexual assault programs are opening; planning is underway for Lauren's Walk, the Rally in Tally, and the biennial summit; an ambitious legislative agenda is proposed to support the most vulnerable survivors; new victim rights are being implemented and reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act is moving forward. The horrors of child sexual abuse have been on the nation's front burner, and FCASV remains committed to improve prevention efforts and policy to protect all Florida's citizens, young and old, from sexual violence. Among other efforts, FCASV is collaborating with Lauren's Kids in 2012 to support child sexual abuse prevention education in kindergarten classrooms across Florida and strengthen the hotline response for concerned parents.

On December 14th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the initial findings of the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) including state data indicating that 1 in 6 Florida women have been the victim of rape. Read more about many of these exciting projects in this winter edition of FCASV's Insight and stay posted for updates on prevention initiatives.
