FCASV Response to Groveland Four Pardon

We applaud Governor DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet for the Groveland Four’s long overdue pardon after decades of a complete failure of justice for four young black men who were wrongly accused of raping a white woman in 1949. It’s past time Florida cleared the names of Ernest Thomas, Charles Greenlee, Samuel Shepherd, and Walter Irvin. While these are posthumous pardons, and we can never change this outrageous denial of justice, our hope is that this provides a small comfort to the families of the Groveland Four, and that this step confirms Florida is working to right wrongs for those who have long and wrongfully suffered.
