Law Enforcement Trainings

Trauma Informed Sexual Assault Investigations Project

Over the next two years FCASV will work closely with Alachua County Sheriff's Office and Palm Beach Sheriff's Office on the Trauma Informed Sexual Assault Investigations Project. The two law enforcement agencies were selected for the project through a competitive process in July 2018.

FCASV is funding ACSO and PBSO to:

  • Hire a full-time investigator to respond to sex crimes victims 11 years and older.
  • Participate in process mapping of the local response to sexual assault to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Hold a two-day training on trauma informed sexual assault investigations for all agency sex crimes detectives.
  • Update sex crimes policies and procedures with trauma informed practices.

Trauma informed investigations lead to better evidence collection and corroboration, resulting in increased arrests and more successful criminal prosecutions. Florida jurisdictions applying the trauma informed approach also report higher confidence and trust in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Law enforcement officers, prosecutors, nurses and advocates can visit the FCASV events page to register for the Alachua and Palm Beach County trainings to be held in November and December 2018. First priority goes to responders from the two counties.

In winter and spring 2019 FCASV will offer three additional trauma informed sexual assault investigations trainings. Complete a training request form if your law enforcement agency is interested in hosting a training.
