A Guide to Hope & Healing is a new and free resource for Florida parents and caregivers to provide support in the aftermath of a child disclosing sexual abuse. The Guide was funded by Lauren’s Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of child sexual abuse, the Florida Department of Education, and was developed by the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence
It includes an information booklet, family recovery activities for children and teens offering healing activities that can be completed by the children alone or with their caregivers, safety planning tips, and reporting tips and forms. The Guide offers tips on how to manage a child’s trauma triggers, information on the long-term impact of sexual abuse, and addresses the issues of school bullying, cyberbullying, and cyber predators. Practical information on navigating the reporting process and the investigative and legal systems is also available.
In addition, guidance is provided on helping a family discover the child and family’s “new normal” with information on issues such as recovery for the survivor, resilience, sibling reactions, and activities aimed at encouraging the victim to become a thriving survivor.
The Guide is available in both print and online. The digital version includes videos and audio clips and can be accessed by visiting laurenskids.org/hopeandhealing. If interested in ordering the print version, you can visit shop.laurenskids.org where English and Spanish options are available.
