NAESV Advocacy Days

On May 24-25, Director of Advocacy Theresa Prichard represented Florida in Washington D.C. at Advocacy Days sponsored by the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence (NAESV).

She met with staff from the offices of Senator Bill Nelson, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, and Congressman David Jolly, as well as Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and her staff who are all incredibly passionate about the work of Florida’s sexual assault programs.

Theresa's meetings with staff focused on requests for increases in SASP and VOCA funding, as well as requiring colleges and universities to partner with local sexual assault programs to provide services to student victims.

It is clear that Florida’s congressional leaders are interested in passing victim-centric legislation, particularly with regard to campus sexual assault, sexual assault kits testing, and human trafficking.
