Supporting Survivors During the Holidays

The holidays can be a time of stress for many trauma survivors because of increased isolation or interaction with family who may have caused harm. They may perceive the rest of the world as joyful and happy while they feel the sadness of past events. However, many survivors are dedicated to their healing and may want to move forward by re-engaging. This may mean participating in beloved traditions or forming new ones. Join us as we discuss ways to help survivors think through the holidays, identify potential triggers, and utilize tools to support healing.

Creating a Coordinated Community Response to Housing

This session focuses on strengthening housing access for sexual assault survivors through collaborative, survivor-centered systems. It emphasizes strategies for breaking down silos among service providers, government agencies, and housing partners to create clear, coordinated pathways to stable housing. Participants will explore coalition-building, resource alignment, and sustainable practices that improve long-term outcomes. This session will introduce The Grove as an innovative technology tool that streamlines shelter referrals, reduces the time advocates and survivors spend searching for available shelter space, and enhances community collaboration. By weaving technology into coordinated responses, sexual assault service providers can expand housing options and improve survivor experiences.

Seek Then Speak: An Alternative Pathway to Justice and Healing for Sexual Assault Survivors

Survivors need more pathways to access justice and services. In an effort to reduce these barriers, End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) created Seek Then Speak, a free online platform that gives survivors information about their options and offers them a new way to begin reporting to law enforcement if or when they choose. In this presentation, EVAWI’s Dr. Kim Lonsway will demonstrate how Seek Then Speak works and describe how it can be integrated into sexual assault response processes in local communities, with case examples from across the country.

Victims' Rights in Florida: A Primer (Webinar)

During this training, you will learn about Marsy's Law, victims' rights, and who they are meant to protect. You will gain a better understanding of what victims' rights generally are, when they are applicable, and when they are enforceable. You will also learn about the rights specifically applicable to sexual assault survivors and what that means to those who prosecute these cases. We will discuss and identify common stages of the criminal justice process and the victims' rights at stake during each stage, beginning with the investigation by law enforcement, all the way to case disposition and the post-conviction process. We will discuss what a victim's rights attorney is and how they can be an ally to the State, and discuss the difference between the two types of victim advocates (system-based and community-based) and the importance of both to the criminal prosecution.
